Salvation through Christ via a Gospel tract? Sometimes we are unaware of, and some even belittle, the spiritual value or effectiveness of a Gospel tract. We do not know what the Lord might do through this feeble instrument.
How Tracts Talk
Every phase of the Protestant Reformation in Europe was preceded by an immense tract effort that almost "turned the world upside down.
Martin Luther wrote more than one tract, booklet, or book for every working week of his entire life. Among the most precious items of cargo on the Mayflower on her first trip to America were Pastor John Robinson's tracts. Benjamin Franklin ghost-wrote and printed the tracts of several early American evangelists, including those of George Whitefield.
Almost every foreign mission field in the world was opened by missionaries who first used tracts to win the heathen to Christ. A son of one of the chiefs of Burd Wain, India, was converted through a single tract, and he was instrumental in winning 1,500 natives to Christ.
Dr. D.L. Moody began his fruitful evangelistic ministry in Chicago by the simple act of distributing Gospel tracts to Great Lake seamen.
Witnesses for Christ
Most of us may not be called to be "evangelists" according to the classic definition, but the Bible is clear that we are to be witnesses for Him (Matthew 28:18-20) and to tell others what He has done for us. We are to be responsible for the stewardship of the glorious Gospel of Christ. Mark 5:19 says, "Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath compassion on thee."
God has chosen to reach the world through weak and feeble instruments.
The Sacred Role of God Honouring Tracts
It has been said that nothing costs less, goes further, lasts longer, or says it better, than a Gospel tract. A tract is a written tool that relates the Gospel of Christ in a relevant and easy to be understood manner, applying the Gospel to sinners and exhorting them to seek Christ.
Think about its strategic use as you go out into the world each day. When you make tracts part of your spiritual repertoire, God can give you many opportunities to share the Gospel. A relevant Gospel tract that is so wonderfully crafted can go to work in ways that even a child can understand.
Regardless of your spiritual maturity or experience in sharing the Gospel, a tract is a wonderful and effective companion that helps in the fulfilment of the great commission given by our Lord. Do not leave home without one!
There are many other blessings associated with evangelising, but the greatest is the personal joy of seeing someone come into a saving relationship with Christ by grace alone. One of the most effective methods of evangelising is the distribution of sound Gospel tracts, in the sowing of the seed in the hearts of men and leaving the results to God.
Any view of the Bible's teaching that in any way inhibits the presentation of the invitations of the Gospel in the ears or to the eyes of all men is the most gross error!
"How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!" (Romans 10:14,15)
